Portable Appliance Testing

JME Services provides portable appliance testing to Industrial, Commercial, Residential care facilities, Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and Property Management Companies in the Mid-West of Ireland.

Reasons for testing:

• In 1989 Ireland brought in new legislation with the objective of making workplace safety a legal entitlement for all citizens. The 1989 Act pins down personal responsibility for health and safety in the workplace on the employer. Employers can now be prosecuted through the courts and may face substantial penalties or imprisonment for breaches of the act.
  

  Further regulations were brought in by the Health and Safety Authority in 1993 which contain a section devoted entirely to electrical safety. These regulations oblige the employer to adopt a preventative safety policy with regard to the workplace and work equipment. Regulation 36 states that all electrical equipment and electrical installations shall at all times be so constructed, installed, maintained protected and used so as to prevent danger.
  

  In short the Law states that it shall be the duty of the employer to ensure, so far as it is reasonably practical, the safety, health and welfare at work of employees including maintenance of the work place and it's equipment, access, work practises, instruction and training, provision of protective clothing and emergency routines.
  

  In legal proceedings resulting from breaches of the act the onus will be on the employer to prove such measures were taken to comply with the regulations that went as far as was reasonably practical.
